Biochar & Syntropic Agroforestry.
Presented by Phil Stevens from Slow Farm in partnership with Quorum Sense, with support from RECAP, Biochar Network New Zealand and Middle Districts New Zealand Farm Forestry Association.
Biochar is one of the most effective ways of increasing the productivity and resilience of a regenerative system. Learn how combining pyrolysis with syntropic agroforestry can boost soil carbon, creating ideal conditions for microbial communities that are the basis of fertility, and how biochar improves animal health.
In a hands-on workshop featuring a flame cap demo, Phil will cover a range of topics, including production methods, feedstocks, material handling, inoculation, and all sorts of applications for biochar. We will also discuss the role of trees and how they integrate with pastoral and cropping systems, and how maintaining a succession regime provides multiple yields to the system.
This will be covering small to large scale production, so it’s for anyone interested in regenerative agriculture, farm forestry, food forests and for those looking to get the most from their small orchard.
